Equipment You Need To Start Filmmaking

If you have always wanted to make films, you can start by making short films. Short films can be anywhere from a minute long to an hour long. There is only a few pieces of equipment you will need to start creating your own films, and after you learn the basics, you can start getting new equipment to make the quality even better. Camera:   This one is quite obvious but very necessary. When you are just starting you can use the camera on your phone or a small sized camera. Once you expand, you can start looking into DSLR cameras. The brand I recommend looking into is Canon, but it is very expensive. Another popular camera brand for filmmaking is Nikon. Lens:   Once you have purchased a DSLR camera, you will need to purchase a lens. There are dozens of lenses you can choose from. If you want to film unfocused shots such as wide shots or scenery, I suggest purchasing a 50 millimeter camera lens. If you are looking for a lens to film cinematic close-ups, you can browse th...

How To Write a Screenplay

Image
Writing a script can be extremely difficult. The hardest part is developing an idea and a storyline. However, after you have figured out that aspect of writing a script, the rest is a piece of cake. Below I have a picture of a screenplay I wrote titled Tara as well as examples from a scene I pulled from my short film  Our Place , which will be released sometime next month on my YouTube channel, Sydnayy .  You will want to create a cover page for your screenplay, especially if you are planning on sending it to producers. Make the font size 12 and the font Courier or Courier New. Then, type the title of your screenplay at the center of the page in all caps, but do not change the font size or stylize it. Skip two lines and underneath the title type "by," enter, enter, and your name. If you are planning on sending it to publishers or producers, type your contact information in the lower right-hand corner. Start with your address, skip a line and type the city, state, and...

Short Film Ideas

Image
Short Film Ideas As a film student, I would definitely agree that coming up with a good short film story or even when writing a novel and coming up with a good plot, is not easy. You have to find something original, yet it seems like all the original ideas have been swept away already. Because of this, I decided I would share with you all some of my top short film ideas. Some of these have been done before, but with your own spin on it, anything can come across as original. Man or woman wakes up after 20 years, and the world is completely different. Maybe you take a fallout 4 perspective with a twist where the world has faced nuclear war and covered in radiation. Maybe you take an apocalyptic twist, which we can all agree has been done, but what you decide to do with it is what makes it original. Maybe you take a dystopian twist on it where the government is now controlling what everyone says and that man or woman is the only one who is normal.  Effects of drunk...

Everything You Need To Know For Learning How To Play The Violin

Everything You Need To Know For Learning How To Play The Violin The violin along with other stringed instruments (viola, cello, bass, etc.) is very difficult to perfect. It takes a long time and a lot of patience. I have been playing for almost eight years now, and I still am no Lindsey Stirling, unfortunately. In this blog, I am going to go through the string names, note names, posture and hand position techniques, bowing, rhythm, reading music, and what you will need to be successful.  Learning The Notes: Learning the names of the notes are actually fairly simple as they all follow the alphabet, going A through G. Take a look at this picture: In this, you can see you start with G, which is the name of the thickest string, then D, A, and finally E. The thicker the string, the deeper the pitch. Now lets talk about half steps and whole steps. If you can see, there are little b's and hashtags next to some of the notes. Those are flats and sharps. b's ...

How To Become A Better Actor

HOW TO BECOME A BETTER ACTOR As a student studying film directing, I have been subjected to all kinds of acting: good and bad... I strongly believe however that anyone has the potential to become an amazing actor/actress, it just takes a lot of practice, and a lot of self criticism. Several actors I have met are extremely cocky when it comes to their skills. Many actors deny the fact that there is always room for improvement, but the truth is, no one is perfect. I've come to recognize the best actors are those who take corrections and take the time to really become the character they are portraying. Acting is often seen as extremely easy because anyone can read off of a script right? But it is those actors who really dive deep into their characters that are the best and most realistic. Tip #1: Be Natural. I cannot stress this one enough! So many actors I have worked with feel the need to over exaggerate every emotion, and every action, but who wants to w...
